Library Director
Meet our library director, Julie Childers! Julie has worked for the Odebolt Public Library since 2013 as director, as well as at DMACC in Carroll since 1998 as an English instructor and HiSET consultant. Julie is happy to be an integral part of her hometown! During her time as head librarian, one of the biggest changes has been the shift to technology. Julie was able to get the library fully automated, as well as making the digitized Chronicles and school yearbooks available on the Odebolt Public Library website.
Another project Julie is proud to have been a part of was the addition of Rachel's Makerspace. When Rachel Wallace, resident of Odebolt and former library board member, passed away in 2023, her family wished to donate a gift of money to the library in her memory toward something that would illustrate Rachel's love for the library and for children. The idea of a "makerspace," a place for creativity, imagination, building, and design, was something Julie and the Wallace family agreed would be perfect, as Rachel had an interest in art and education. Julie decided on an industrial/steampunk theme for the space and had the furniture handmade by Jack Thompson, DMACC emeritus professor of industrial-electromechanical technology. With generous donations from several Odebolt businesses, and a few technological supplies donated from the makerspace at the West DMACC college campus, our own community makerspace was begun!
